Joel makes these indulgent meatballs using the bold flavors of 19 Crimes Red Blend for renowned guitarists Dean Williams and Rodney Alexander.

Ingredients

1 lb minced meat (seasoned with green seasoning, garlic, paprika, salt, pepper)

1 egg beaten

½ cup panko bread crumbs

1/3 cup 19 Crimes Red Wine

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon all purpose seasoning

Pinch salt and black pepper

FOR THE RED WINE BBQ SAUCE

1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

 cup diced onion

2 peeled garlic cloves, finely diced

1 tsp green seasoning

Few dashes pepper sauce

2 tsp chili powder

1 tsp mustard

1 cup 19 Crimes Red Wine

Few dashes Worcestershire sauce

1 tbsp brown sugar

1 cup ketchup

Directions

  1. MAKE THE MEATBALLS.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. In a large bowl combine seasoned beef, egg, panko, red wine, Worcestershire sauce, and SPG rub, using your hands taking care not to over mix.
  3. Shape into bite sized balls and place on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake in preheated oven for 8 – 10 minutes, depending size of meatballs. Remove from oven.
  4. FOR THE RED WINE BBQ SAUCE
Heat olive oil over medium high heat in a saucepan. Add the onions and cook for a couple of minutes just until translucent. Reduce heat if onions begin to brown too quickly. Add garlic and cook for 2 additional minutes being careful not to burn.
  5. Into the saucepan add the chili powder, green seasoning, pepper sauce and mustard and stir constantly, for one minute.
  6. Add the 19 Crimes Red Wine, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar and stir. Turn the heat up to high. Bring the wine to a boil and then reduce heat to simmer for about 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally. You want the wine to reduce about 1/2 for flavor intensity.
  7. Add ketchup and bring back up to a simmer again while stirring for about five minutes. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Toss the meatballs with some of the bbq sauce in a heated frying pan. Let warm through and place in a serving bowl. Sprinkle with some chopped chives and serve.
